English 10 Course Outline
Semester 1 - 2014 - 2015
English
10 promotes reading, writing, listening and viewing for both pleasure and
purpose. Often, for the first time, you are encouraged to be reflective (reflective
or meta-cognitive thinking entails thinking about thinking) with what you have
written. There is a focus on writing with a purpose that goes beyond producing reports
or creative writing. The thesis is introduced and the structure of the essay is
explored. English 10 also serves to provide opportunities to read fiction and
non-fiction with the intent to encourage life-long reading habits.

Equal
weight will be given to the two terms.
Assignments and
projects will each contribute to 70% of your grade.
Tests and quizzes
will account for 30% of your grade.
A
final provincial exam will account for 25% of a final grade.
Student achievement will be determined by

either individually or in groups.
